I've had it with our hosting provider. We'll be moving sometime next month.

Based on Anthony's recommendation, I'm going to try dreamhost. If they don't work out, pm him!!!:sneaky:

LOL!

You should see if when they set you up if they give you a temporary URL to access the site on their servers if you aren't 100%. Of course you always have 97 days and like I said, so far no problems here.

They changed how I refer people to Dreamhost now.

Use this link and don't enter anything for who referred you:

http://www.dreamhost.com/r.cgi?14612
--or--
enter the tartaglia as the promo code

EDIT: Or don't its up to you. This should help though if you were trying an older link and having trouble. Hopefully that clears things up.

I anyone else having trouble with the site today? It keeps getting hung or will go to server not found page. Don't think it's on my end. Other sites seem to work fine.

As mentioned, I pretty much hate our hosting provider's service. We'll move soon.

And Anthony, can you be a bit more aggressive?

I'm not trying to be aggressive at all. A friend was trying to use the old link and apparently the process changed and we had about 5 emails back and forth of me trying to explain the old way before I realized it changed. It just added confusion and wasted both of our time.

You don't have to use the link at all and nobody else does either. The referral isn't worth me being perceived as "aggressive" I was just trying to save somebody else some time if they tried.

Good luck with everything and no worries.

We're back on the old server for now. It appears there is a problem with the theme or a plugin that I didn't have time to find, so I switched back.

I'll probably point x-h20 to the new server and work on it then point x-h2o to it once it's functional. That way, it can be an immediate switch for everyone just by going to x-h20 until the dns propagates for x-h2o to work also.

BTW, I found out during this that some people go to x-h2"ZERO".com then get redirected to here, which is the proper address, x-h2"OH".com. Water is 2 parts Hydrogen, 1 part Oxygen, so it's H2O. I have the other domain set to redirect to here.

the 'zero' vs 'o' thing could be messing up your server switch if its hard coded some place.

???

x-h20 used to point to an ipowerweb server which automatically forwarded you to x-h2o. x-h2o is on a realwebhost.net server, completely different company. I'm moving it to dreamhost.com.

The problems I'm having are vbulletin related, not DNS related.

I can't get riot either, their server must be down. I help with admining the board, but don't have any control on the server really.

SuperJETT

This is correct, the new server has x-h20 and I'm working on getting it setup, but everyone will see this message for now.
i get:

"This is the new server, please use the old server until it's ready."
its a vbulletin page and it also has a link that says "X-H2O.com" and it goes to http://www.x-h2o.com/. when i click the link from that page, i get:

This is probably just a browser cache issue. Clear your temporary internet files (IE) or cache (Firefox)

"Site Temporarily Unavailable

SuperJETT
04-03-2006, 03:54 PM
Ok, I've got it functional, it was a combination of 2 issues, I just had to have time to disable one thing at a time.

I'll probably switch us over on Wednesday, so if you can't get here, you'll be able to go to x-h20.com (that's a zero this time, not an "oh").

I'll try to do it late at night so the DNS propagates overnight and most people can get on normally in the morning.

When I do it, in the board disabled message I'll put the temporary link also.

SuperJETT
04-05-2006, 11:49 PM
We're running on our "other" domain name, x-h20 (with the number zero instead the letter o ). I'll switch the dns for x-h2o to point here tomorrow once I'm satisfied there aren't any problems.

I know the Googlemap isn't working, but if there are other things not working let me know in this thread.

SuperJETT
04-06-2006, 12:44 AM
Alright, both domains point to the same place now, and they both work, so I'll probably leave it alone.

I'll get the ads up eventually and the Googlemaps may only work if you access it from x-h2o so I can hard-code that link to make it work for everyone.

Pretty painless, and only took about 1.5 hours, most of which was transferring 1.3Gb of attachments from the old to the new server.

Your DNS is still pointing to the old server. Just give it some time for all the DNS servers to update. It's supposed to take up to 72 hours, 12-24 is normal, some are faster, some are slower and I just changed it last night around 10pm. Mine was updated in about 30 minutes, fastest I've ever seen.

I'll probably leave things as they are though, so both x-h2o and x-h20 bring you here.

Nah, it's just that while the dns propagates, I can guarantee x-htwenty will work.

We have both domains registered because some people read it as h-two-zero instead of h-two-o.

Yikes, I'm glad I didn't cancel the old account yet.

We're officially on Dreamhost. There were a couple of problems on their end the first day (not related to us but affected us) but it's been better recently.

It appears I've got some issues after the move so I'll be working on a clean install to flip over to possibly today. Some functions in the background aren't working properly and it's affecting other items like profiles so I need to get that cleaned up.

I just want to say thanks to everyone for surviving the move and a lot of little changes over the past week getting the domain names straightened out. It was kind of a p.i.t.a. but it's worth it.

We're now with dreamhost, who have had some issues recently but they do get them straightened out fairly quickly and keep me informed so we'll see how it goes.

Currently, and the way I wanted it from the beginning, x-h2o.com is the domain name, but we do have x-h20.com also (x-htwozero) but if you go to x-h20.com it will automatically kick you to the proper domain and you probably won't even notice.

I'm working on a couple of new features and might have them up today/tomorrow as I get time. My priority today is getting my ski running again and I took a day's vacation to do it.

Now leave me alone!!!!
