I would be surprised if it wans't at least waist high... Hope for bigger, cleaner, but that can change in a second
waves

WEATHER:
http://www.weather.com/outlook/recreation/boatandbeach/weather/tenday/32117?fcst=tenday
looks like it will be in the mid 70's but that could change very quick. this year has been very very unpredictable.

TIDES:
http://www.mobilegeographics.com:81/locations/1519.html?y=2007&m=1&d=11
the tides will work out for us.. we should have a good amount of room w/ the tide being low mid day through the weekend

Hmmmm...speaking of very odd weather - this is the forecast for Sacrament0 - WHILE I'M GONE (thanks God!)

Jan 11 Thursday
Few showers. Highs in the upper 40s and lows in the upper 20s.
Jan 12 Friday
Mainly sunny. Highs in the upper 40s and lows in the mid 20s.
Jan 13 Saturday
Windy with plenty of sun. Highs in the upper 40s and lows in the upper 20s.
Jan 14 Sunday
Plenty of sun. Highs in the mid 50s and lows in the mid 20s.
Jan 15 Monday
Mainly sunny. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the mid 30s.

We actually have a chance for "a measurable amount of snow" during this time - which hasn't happened since the 70's. I'm sure glad I'll be in sunny Florida - at least I hope so. With the luck I've been having lately, I'll get snowed in =\

WOW, THAT'S JUST CRAZY! Right up to leading to the event it's like flat (don't get me wrong,...I'll take 5-6 foot swells any day of the week!) and then a BIG upswing projected up to 10 feet (combined swell) on Fri. by noon I believe...Tapering down to 8 ft for Sat. Nick, if this holds up, you f'ing rule the universe!

With such big surf, I think we need some safety in the surf guidlines. It is no joke out there...

First of all, everyone needs to put tow loops on their ski, both front and back.

I don't care how big it is as long as it isn't windswept and choppy. Nothing worse than spotting a wave and then as you get up to it realize that it has a junior wave right in front of it blocking an approach. Ah crap, who am I kidding. I suck equally in any kind of surf.

Please everybody have an easily accessable tow rope with quick release clips at each end. (I wrap mine around my waist 3x) Also a tow loop tied on front and back of the ski. A simple break down and tow in can be difficult on hairy surf days! You don't wanna be out there getting slammed by waves while trying to tie a friggin knot.

I've got my fingers crossed for 70's and surf!

Ive never ridden the inlet at Daytona, but with such big surf you are better off in the zone. Inlets often cause the surf to pop up even higher, and with the current you would have, breaking down could leed to a very painfull ride onto some hard objects..but ya it would be allot cleaner

Boris
01-07-2007, 10:55 PM
inlet ? who's talking about an inlet ?

FLY6584
01-07-2007, 11:03 PM
yeah, i'd also only like to add that if youre riding behind/in close proximity of the guy next/in front of you.. dont assume he's just gonna jump the wave.. look out for reentries, nosestabs, basically any move where the rider will change directions either left/right or a complete 180 back at you.

i dont know if that came out the right way.. someone help me out here..

Yeah dude I'll second that. With this many people coming there is bound to be a few collisions. I just don't want to see anyone land on anyone else.

Surf Outlook:
Northern states will see some weather with waves over the next 24 hours, but this isn't looking pretty.
A cold front is expected to drop down across the southern coastal waters, creating some fetch (javascript:flybybook('Fetch', '4', 'The uninterrupted distance over which wind blows without a significant change in direction creating an area of seas that later bring surf.')) along the coastlines of the southern states in the next few days. This should give Florida through the Carolinas some southerly swell with wave heights possible in the chest to head high range. The ETA for this is by Friday the 12th, lasting into Saturday the 13th--according to this morning's model run.

Ok what does swell direction mean ? :frown:

funny fact:

sometimes you will go online to check the buoys and they will read 8ft @ 9 seconds, but on shore it's flat... This happens because the fetch is going a direction the is not toward your beach. We will get some N. swells that will just pass us right by, because the direction of the fetch is pushing parallel to the beach instead of perpendicular.

You really need to understand what direction the swell will be coming from in order to figure out the size.... then you have combination swells where a N. and S. swell are combining

Ya thats some pretty nasty stuff right now, I would feel right at home in that mess.

I will say this, in the 15 or 16 years I've been coming to Daytona there has always been some kind of waves to play in.

If we get the 8'+ forcasted for the weekend it will be insane. I can only remember getting waves that big once down there and I was riding with you out of the inlet.
