How many are interested in moving the venue south to Corpus Christi or near Corpus.

We might be able to get better surf south of Corpus, but if there is no interest by the attendees then there is no point in moving it.

You should post a map showing where the venues are - my Texan geography isn't so great....

I vote that we keep it as-is.

We have a location at Crystal Beach that has proven to be PWC friendly, with Penguin's place as a home base and plenty of other houses around that are inexpensive to rent. And I dont think we need to be exposed to a large spring break crowd. IMO, we would either be lost in the crowd and/or hassled by the law for riding in a crowded area.... (not a problem at CB.)

And frankly, I don't want to drive any further. As it stands now, Pismo is only about 200 miles further from my house, total... and the surf is much better. Make the Texas ride further away and I'm less likely to go.

And one last thing... I vote for the same weekend (approximately) as last year. St. Patricks day March 16-17-18. I have other commitments the weekend of the 24th-25th so that is definitely out for me.

South Padre is about as far south as you can go in Texas.
The water is blue, the swells are consistent, and the girls look better.

I'm all for it, but we have out of staters to consider. It's a 6 hour drive from my house alone.

Yeah, I think S. Padre will be out as the crowds and law enforcement will be too much of a problem.

I am looking into an area just south of Corpus. I will keep you updated.

Long way's to go, I would rather drive to Crystal Beach. I'm up for any weekend in March.

I wouldn't mind seeing some different scenery, prettier water and bigger waves, but if it means that some people don't come, then I'm fine with staying in CB.

Exposing what we do to spring breakers (I know... its been done!) could be a good thing.

That's OK as long as more of the spring breakers expose themselves to us.... :purr:

corpus would be my vote....fewer annoying spring-breakers, warmer water, and more access to hotels that are closer to the beach, and no fairy rides....lots of benefits...I'm from Texas and Corpus is my vote......

any place but where it was last year.... Sorry to sound negative, but that place sucked!!!! Nothing there but rednecks and dirty ass water... I'm only posting this, cause you asked... A good friend of mine is from CB area and he said Corpus was 1,000,000 times nicer...

Hmmm, I just looked at the map and it turns out the Corpus is 30 miles closer than Crystal for me. And I would not have to drive thru Dallas or Houston. Gonna have to reconsider now...

Is there a specific site in Corpus that will host the non-event for us there? Somebody local needs to check into that SOON if we want to move the ride.

I should be able to change your vote if you wish.

don't mess with the poll

if someone wants to coordinate a Corpus ride - go right ahead and do it. I am not familiar with the area at all. Beach access, hotel availability etc will need to be scoped out and SOON (like yesterday)

Chamber of Commerce could give us names of seaside hotels with beach access.

The only way the poll can be changed is if someone changes their mind. The poll is to provide feedback and is not a vote. As such, to convey accurate data I would consider allowing a 1-time change in a vote. With accurate counts of who prefers what, a decision can be made. As it stands, we are 62% CB.

I will in no way go willy-nilly and modify votes as I see fit.

Like I said, this is to see if there is interest in moving it this time around. If there is not, there is no reason another ride cannot be made for those who want to see if there is better surf to be found in Corpus.

Agreed, and thats kinda what I was getting at as well... may be too late to change venues anyway.

very good points

You should know (you're the man!!)... there is a ton of work getting a venue at a beach resort area secured - among other issues...

I have reservations about trying to line up a different venue only 3-4 months out. I'd have no problem doing a scouting trip later in the spring or summer to see about a location for the next TX surf ride.

Yall should just move it over to New orleans. (chocolate city) Sure theres no surf and the water is brown, but look at all the partying everyone can do once the sun goes down. i guess that would be the only good thing.....

That is kind of what I meant by the last sentence in my last post. I have been told here and there about moving it and was testing the waters. It is almost 3:1 for staying in CB so I am not sure what problem is.

Topics of concern have been put forth and need to be addressed. Perhaps we can do something in September as the last surf for the season. Even it if is just locals.

The Penguin

no problem with that either 950.

I'd also like to have another group ride or 2 at Somerville again in 2007

Sommerville do doubt. I know this summer I will be there on a few occations, and perhaps we can get some of the Austin and Dallas crew and make a camping trip of it. It's always fun to camp in your own back yard.

It has a good surf break
Too many out of control spring breakers beach is packed
If anyone thinks the CB law are rednecks they have nothing on Port A
They are cool all year the turn in to super cops for that 3 weeks.

Packed worse than Pismo on ATV Dune race weekend?

Nice surf and pretty water sounds nice. Spring Breakers in bikinis:cheer:

If there is any intent to get exposure and convert riders, riding in front of a bunch of teen-age or twenty-somethings might be the way to do it. Or staying at relatively quiet Crystal Beach might not. Just thinking out loud here.

I'm down for CB for the first ride. Later in the year for CC. I can coordinate the Somerville thing again this year if wanted. It was a good time. Too bad it was cooling off already, though.

QuickMick

I agree, lets keep it at CB for the March ride. Then we can start planning the Somerville rides!!:arms: :arms:

But this year I think Ill stay off Bronco Kings SJ. :hail:

Penguin, you need to scout out some houses for us to rent, if you get time.

Im not sure if the house I rented last year is for rent still.

We will at some point this spring/summer have a ride in or near Corpus Christi to plan for next year.

Look for details in the Riding groups forum: Texas Gulf Coast: Surf Bound (http://www.x-h2o.com/showthread.php?t=6722) if you wish to attend.
