So.. I was having my morning coffee at the spot this morning, and as I was leaving, I noticed a large track-hoe on the beach across from Summer Island. I thought, for a moment that it might be digging out the creek. But no. It was there to demolish the "igloo house, or Dome house".
Only a pile of debris remains!

just down the road you guys lost the 5th oldest tree in the world during the freeride too.

Shame about the tree. I mean, cypress has great anti-rot properties. It's a shame the lumber had to burn.

The igloo house had been abandoned for quite a while. Kids got in there and destroyed it from the inside out a while ago. It was made of fiberglass, so the basic structure would have stood for a long time. I'm not sure how long it had been there, but friends say they remember it being there at least since the mid 60's.

If you have ridden the spot b4, it sat just south of the inlet on the beach. There was a decent break there after TS Fay blew through to the creek, creating kindof a new inlet and sandbar.

The senator( big tree) was a huge loss !!! Not only was it an amazing sight, but tons of history behind it... I grew up not 2 miles from it. There's still another huge cypress that is awesome in it's size thankfully that did not get burned.

you got it all wrong. she set a fire inside the tree so she could see it better. It's an honest mistake.

Barnes told authorities that she and a friend were inside the hollow tree on the early morning of Jan. 16 and lit a fire so they could see better.
Deputies also arrested Jodi Hill, 41, on charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
