I got it over the summer for a winter project and am just getting started, I am going to foam the inside of the hull, 750 possibly 900 conversion, custom paint(of course) one way valve, trim mods(including quick trim) mabey tubbies, custom billit steering, and more.:woot: :sneaky:

what exactly are you tryign to accomplish by foaming the inside of the hull???

Sorry but I have never seen that done before and am curious to know.

Good luck on the build!

the water that gathers in between the braces annoys me and i figure that any extra floatation is good thing, it will be glassed over top of when im done:biggthumpup:

custom billit steering

that will probably be pretty reasonably priced.

Good luck on the build

I am working on the one way valve right now i am wondering weather or not to just flaten out the ends of the footwells so they arent sloped on the end. i am not sure what to use to fill it with yet, any suggestions or ideas welcome:shrug: :hail:

The SJ hull I bought had foam put in it, shaped and carbon fiber laid over it. Pretty slick looking. Easy to clean!

On my x2, I taped off the rear 'slants' and foamed them. Then I shaped it and put several layers of cloth & matting over it for strength. I made it angle up at the back, but you could make it straight also.

Install done, all that is needs to be done is cosmetic work (bondo and glass:banghead: ) and finish the inside. I may have located a donor ski for engine and electrics but it is not for sure yet :banghead:. i still havent decided on how to mod the hood but was thinking of making one out of carbon kevlar if I can find the material and get the cash, any ideas/ suggestions?

WDKfan

I finished glassing around the one-way drain, and have started to work on the hood and nose (shaving and smoothing):Banane01:

I have also started to tear into the original motor which I am planing to rebuild and put in the 650SX:woot: so i have a fresh motor this season:Banane01:

How do I know weather I need to bore the cyl or just hone them(they arent scored)

FL-cracker

To do it accurately you will need a "T Guage" . I would check it in three different spots from top to bottom, and turn the T guage 90 degree at each spot. Make sure the T guage is as level as possible. This will asure a round cylinder. If piston clearence is acceptable you can run it at the bore size it is. I would buy a set of brand new pistons wether you run the bore how it is, or if you have the cylinder bored!

Note: I am not a engine builder...... just trying to help.

Nice work so far!

The cylinders are going to be sent off for boring and honing on monday:woot: they're going to be sent off to a shop my freind gets all his motors resleved and bored at:woot: :Banane01:

I'm trying to get my freind to sell me his 93 750SSXI so I will have the twin carb 750 small pin:woot: Then I may bore it out but I am going to get a girdled head from Atlantic Jetsports (has anyone ever heard any thing about the head they make, it has removable domes and is much less than the others.) I also want to find someone who can port it for freestyle and wont charge me a fortune.

Why didn't you get rid of the hump in the middle of the hood? I've been toying with shaving that off of my hood.

WDKfan

I plan on using the hump in the hood for the air intake. if i dont then i will shave it off or reshape it how i see fit:woot: :Banane01:

Is the intake gonna face the front or the rider? I dont suggest doing it casue you will get alot of water in there.

WDKfan
12-11-2006, 11:53 PM
i was thinking about making it face the rider but i havent decided where the ends of the vent hoses will go that will require a lot of fitting and expirimenting:banghead:

I started to work on the inside again today, I ground down the small ribs on the top and layed a layer of chopped strand mat on it i plan on putting doum at least one more layer before i lay the Carbon over top:woot::Banane01:

why grind the ribs down? they had to have more strength then just adding flat layers?

WDKfan
12-15-2006, 08:46 PM
I only ground down the small ones (1/8 in high) so that i could get good adheasion of the resin to the hull and I'm planning on adding a layer or two of carbon kevlar or plain carbon to replace the ribs. This hull is kinda like a guinea pig for my designs and school projects(I am an engineering student):woot: :sneaky:

I definately feel Your pain I still have a lot of glasswork to do I am using polyester resin BUT I have done it before on my Hyrdoplane and I am using a sufface pred disk for the prep work:banghead: I plan on using west systems when I lay in the final layes of either carbon or kevlar:Banane01: I can't wait until I finish :Banane09:

Man go back and look at that thread and then tell me why you are using polyester resin. That pile of fiberglass there was all pulled loose with a screwdriver,it took me all of 10 minutes to pull it all off.Polyester resin will not stick to smc period. The smc has a mold release mixed in with the material. Now guess what you use on a mold so that the resin will not stick to it,thats right mold release.Epoxy only on smc,its the only correct way to do it period.

He's right, it looks like it sticks, but will come loose. I learned it the hard way with my old 550.

Usually if its on a flat surface if i can get ac corner of it loose I can grab the corner and snatch the hell out of it and the whole repair will come loose,I ahve done it manty times.A lot of what I do here is repair other peoples attempts at fiberglass and smc repair.I just finished a kawi stx1100 Friday and am working on a yama gp1200r at the moment. That one should be going into primer tomorrow and paint later on this week. That whole area under the fairing compound has been repaired.

West Systems is good epoxy, and easy to find. I like slow hardner.

WFO Speedracer
12-18-2006, 10:15 PM
Now you see what I am talking about ,If you tried that with west system you would not have ben able to tear that loose like that. Also it needs to be roughed up more for proper adhesion.I would say at the least get some 36 grit sandpaper and rough it up.

what kind of mat/ cloth and foam should I use to redo the inside of the hull?:hail: (I was thinking of some biaxal and 4 lb foam then microballoons for filler)
