(Stage 1)Got it spring 06, tore it apart once I got it and had it ready for summer. 93 square with a 650 basically stock. I wont list what I did but you can see by the pics. Worked great all summer however lacked Braaap and some other things. Flatwater rolls just not possible with this powerplant.
(Stage 2)Summer over, why not redo the thing again. Tore everything off except the turf. Engine out and mostly sold. Hood modded the right way this time, molded in gas filler door, getting ready to sand for paint. I did the fuel tank mod, to use the stock pickup hole for the filler and the pickups going into the side where the filler tube went into, looks sano. Roundie Pole, also a huge improvement.
Heres the motor specs, gonna build it in a few weeks: Stock Flame arrestor, single 44, Greater Yamaha head (35cc domes), Ported Cyl done by Jetskimechanic, Stock 61x cases, 6m6 crank, Factory Dry Pipe.
Ill post some updated pics in a few but it will (i hope) be done for Spring Break in Daytona, early March.

Just snapped these, Im not very organized right now but once I actually get a project finished it will come together. Notice the crazy grinding on the pole that I did for one ride this fall when I could have just ground the bracket like I did now, thanks to sflsurfrider, will work with our washer setup no problem. Im going to reinforce under the nose as well, probably not the sides tho. Thanks to Rob Bortolameolli for pole and the shop stand with wheels, comes in very handy. Engine is going to get cleaned before assembly, should I paint before of after??? Regular high temp engine enamal okay??? All black spray bomb.
Im getting the ski painted at a body shop I use to work at, Im thinking black base with silver and orange or red BIG metalflake. Should have some bling bling.
How does the Port work look, pretty normal?
Poor ski sitting outside right now before i sand soon.

Heres my parts cabinet and how does my hoodliner, I should have added some neon glow under it, jk. Should that hold up alright or should I reinforce the sides. Its pretty thin plexi bonded with liquid nails. Think my drypipe will fit??

looks like you got your work cut out for ya. You really should go through that parts cabinet and put all the "heavy not needed" parts in a pail and weigh it to keep track of the diet your going to put you ski on. thats what i am doing. Keep us posted on the progress.

like what sorta parts that arent needed?

front nose piece, fire putter outter holder tube, side rails, rear exhaust tube (metal and rubber) if you want to run front exhaust like all the cool guys, i also got rid of my blowsion coupler cover and went with the stocker, i got a pile of stuff like that weighs close to 12 pound which at least offsets the reinforcing i did. still my hull weight was approx 120 reiforced with the pole bracket still on and footholds installed and foamed. errrr thats pretty heavy so i am cutting out anything i can to get the power to weight ratio a little bit better.

I weighed mine on an old bathroom scale a few times and got 117, thats with the driveshaft and housing in and turf, everything else off.

11-29-2006, 07:30 AM
oh yeah? you don't have any reinforcing yet either correct? my buddy's RN stripped reinforced hull with foam weighed in at 110 so i thought that i was on the heavy side which i am but if your at 117 then i don't feel too bad about the weight of my ski with all the side/ front nose reinforcement that it has done.

Don't forget that a little wet foam can weigh a lot...
Good luck on the build. It's good to see some square love every once in a while.

i dont think there is any wet foam, when i did the holds last spring it was dry but there could be some towards the bottom maybe.
dont let you bendix sit out......soak it in penetrating oil or auto tranny fluid if its oging to be uninstalled for awhile.... ;)

my square was 120# with holds, turf, reinforcements, - everything else removed.

I think my square is around 150 w/ hood, turfed, hp bracket and reinforcement.

well i guess my square isn't as water logged and heavy as i feared, i refoamed last winter and used alot of dow but failed to seal up one of the rear pump bolt and it leaked some water for a few days out the pilot holes i drilled. i think my ski will be 10 lbs lighter this next season with all the stuff i am scrapping. i am going to weigh it as a complete ski when its done.

Carbs apart, stock on the 650 it has 120 low and 115 high speed jets, dull silver spring and needle with a black tip. Still trying to figure out what to run.
Got the head yeasterday from hangtime, it was on this engine before so thats good to know, theres a small chip in the dome, hope it doesnt affect anything and any idea if thats all the hardware I need, kinda weird setup.

hmmm i hope that chip won't let water in the dome, better 1211 the shiat out of it.

Wel ive been doing a lil work here and there and finally shot some pics. 1 month till we go to Daytona March 1st, so time is running short. Ill be ready for paint in a week or two and I think im going a metallic yellow or goldish, my buddy whos spraying it says there some new paint out that gives it a bass boat look as far as the amount of metal flakes.
Started the engine tonight, dont have case studs or Cir clips so I had to stop early.
I reinforced all around the sides, and under the hand pole bracket, filled the bondline in with foam and just one layer of some thick woven cloth and I died the resin black, turned out real sweet looking like carbon.
Lots more work to come in the next few weeks.

your really not going to paint that with ur turf taped off are you?
DaUpJetSkier
01-19-2007, 03:25 PM
the tape is just for sanding but ya I am, my turf shrunk last season so ill justuse the fine blue auto body tape and itll be fine.

looks good so far, you should just spray some clear on it and ride the ugliest ski ever! lol, what are your plans for the front stock nose piece or did you loose it already?
DaUpJetSkier
01-20-2007, 03:59 PM
I glassed over and under the gas filler door, however I let it sit out and the nose got really flat and just barely fits the glass must have bent it outwards.
you shouldve ported those cases before you put them in! very cheap mod good improvement!
D-Roc
01-21-2007, 11:17 AM
how much improvement can one expect with porting the 62t cases? i did mine this winter but am switching to dual carbs, delta v-forces, and a rad flywheel all at once so i won't be able to tell the difference between ported and non ported. it looks like it would make a pretty big difference. i can't wait till spring to try out the new mods.
edit: oops i see he has 61x cases.....you should still have ported them IMO even if i don't know how much it improves performance :)
DaUpJetSkier
01-21-2007, 01:05 PM
I probably should have seeing my cyl is ported but this is my first feestyle motor so anything is going to be better than a 650 for a while.
D-Roc
01-21-2007, 03:36 PM
yup it should be a much better motor. is it a 701 or a bored out 650? my buddy has a bored out 650 to a 701 and a sizzler pipe and prop 44mm carb with some reeds. its an older setup from back in his racing days and it has crappy power IMO, not sure if it was because it was a 650 originally but compared to my setup it was a huge difference, and my ski isn't even pumping out that much power yet. is it to late to look up that thread on porting the 61x cases? i just find that when you have a budget you might as well do as many of the free or cheaper self doing mods to build up as much power as you can, every little mod will help in the complete ski package you;ll be riding.

The engine was freestyle ported by Rob Sands I believe, Jetskimechanic. Im not gonna mess with the porting now seeing im going to daytona in a month but good idea.

Been a while since and update but been busy getting ready to head to daytona end of feb. The very bottom is appliance epoxy white, then from that edge to below the bondline in appliance epoxy black, above the bondline is ppg base pure gold and a transparent yellow with flake and pearl, I forget the actual names. Pole is a roundnose pole and thats black. Ill unmask tomorrow and should start assembly this weekend or next week. Motor is built and ready to go in pretty much.
wow...I like it!
Nice job!

How come you chose to you appliance paint for the black? Why not use the same good quality stuff as the gold? Anyways, It looks awesome!!!

easy touch up is the answer, and to save a few $$ on paint.

Gettin There. Motor is sorta in, gotta hook up all the electrics, and clean things up, bolt a bunch of little stuff on. Going to check compression and turn the motor over this weekend, fingers are crossed. Next is my buddies ski in the pics, atleast his motor and everything is all in one pile to just bolt in. The paint is sick, you can see in the upper left of his hood pic how its gonna look in the sun. 12 Days left till we leave for Daytona..

If i was making a boat nice, I sure wouldnt tape the turf off, I'd rip it off and re-do it. But thats jmho. Especially since it takes a ton of work, Id like everything as good as I could get it.
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEET COLOR.

You should install a carburetor. They really help.
Looking good, we'll all cross our fingers for you. Can't wait for pics of that thing all polished up. What is your timeframe for getting on the water?

Actually it cam out nearly perfect, lil line of overspray on the turf in two spots, other than that its perfect. Actually glad I did that because I still have one square to turf with no kit and then roundnose with a kit.
Carb is probably going to be built today.

I heard Brappp tonight, filled the whole workshop basement in smoke for the guys tomorrow morning, Dad wont be happy. But no signs of elec problems, started to suck some gas but didnt run on its own, just poured some gas down the carb. I may take it outside this weekend to get a good warm up and check compression. I read 150 and 175 on a snap-on gauge, but that may change after it gets going. Still kinda worried.
DAYTONA in 8 days, my skis to finish up, a buddies to put assemble everything and turf, and another roundnose to turf and bolt some stuff on, also gotta get the car hauler ready to carry the skis and all our gear.

I think I elected to go with metal flake also. It may be a bit more intense than your flake concentration but I like that you have already done it.
I was thinking of taping off the turf but decidee to dismantle it all together. Now I'm in more trouble.

Ya my metal flake is about the smallest besides a regular metallic paint, sometimes bigger like bass boat looks chunky.

Finally got em to daytona in one piece, still lots of tweaking to do, but overall happy with how it turned out,
Def more braap then it use to have, I did a bulldog gave it some gas and pop goes the shoulder, I think it was because i had low end hesitation then it finally caught, that was fun in the daytona surf, luckily it was small. Now to see the physical therapist next week.
pics are from panama city for stop 2 of our spring break, the I am Hi is from some extra azhiaziam stickers. Now were stuck in Birmingham Alabama with a broke truck till tomorrow, then 18 hrs home.

Yo can someone shrink down the pic of my ski on the beach to avatar size and maybe the one with the girls, that may be too small tho.
Anyways as far as the ski goes, after daytona I gotta reinforce the hood more, its starting to come apart. I wish I would have done front exhaust but maybe mid summer ill feel like working on it again. Otherwise gotta wait for the 2 feet of snow we just got to melt and then keep tuning.
